We walk through every day wearing many, many hats. Mother? yes…Business Owner?…yes…Producer?…yes…Wife?…yes. Every day we wake up fulfilling many tasks and many to-do lists that passes time very quickly.
But, do you wear a hat that fits you so well? A hat that has been your identity since your college days? This is what I speak about when I speak of Ikigai and helping to coach those stay true to their creative selves. Their young child within themselves that just wants to play, create, laugh, dance and all of those happy things that they can scream from the rooftops when they hit that perfect feeling of fulfillment and unadulterated JOY!
Mine comes in the form of ‘meeting my muse at the decks’ as a DJ and vinyl collector… Those decks are 1200 Technics I had the joy of buying back in 1998 on Canal Street when I was living life on the wild streets of New York that I try to capture every week in my DJ sessions. I was a DJ for years at clubs from Idlewild to Niagara to Lit. I was fulfilling my every beat and dream spinning vinyl for happy people on those various dance floors.
When the pandemic hit, I got back on the decks and served up beats again, but this time from the comfort of my own home with the very vinyl I had from back in the day. It helped me to wear my other hats as mom, business owner, wife, etc but from my own home.
Today I’m proud to say that we are four years on Twitch and other mediums and I get to do what I TRULY love, my Ikigai: DJ’ing and dancing for all those beautiful souls who may need to be uplifted through vibrational music, dance and community.
